World Building
In this world, beings are created from feelings of loneliness.
They are called Soulsters.

Ethereals are beings of the sky, made from bittersweet loneliness with good intentions.
Bottomfeeders are beings born of the Chasms underground, made from obsessive and depressive loneliness.
​Soulsters feel the emotions of their creators, and the stronger the emotion, the more powerful the soulster is.
Ethereals

They must serve their creator to live a happier life.

Most Ethereals stay in the skies and help from afar, but some choose to meet their makers.

Some makers have been known to grow mad with power over their Ethereal and force them to do evil.

This "contaminates" them and they become a Bottomfeeder, falling to the Chasms.
Bottomfeeders

Most Bottomfeeders are like rabid animals and spend their days fighting each other.

They live in the Chasms, a huge underground cave system that can't be opened easily.

The ones powerful enough with human intelligence can break out.

Usually, these beings were formed by loneliness with malign thoughts.
Mayo
The main story follows Mayo, a lonely girl who struggles with making friends and meets a demonic-looking girl who wants to stop her from feeling lonely and keeps causing trouble.

Mayo struggles with social anxiety.

She meets Katherine, the soulster she created, who can feel her emotions.
​

Katherine is annoyed at Mayo as she can feel her sadness and vows to help her make friends.
A timid girl who has no friends. Her intimidating exterior makes people avoid her when she's trying her best to be friendly.

Katherine Stubhorn

Katherine Stubhorn is a Bottomfeeder soulster.​

She often finds herself in amusing yet unpredictable situations, that cause Mayo great stress but brings her out of her comfort zone.

She has many powers like super strength, fire-breathing and wings.

She originally lived in the Chasms before she decided to bust out and find Mayo, due to her finding Mayo's feelings of sadness and loneliness annoying.

This was my first ever sketch of Katherine. This may be her form when she's in the Chasms.

A fearless girl with a bold personality who is very impulsive and lacks a filter. She often speaks without thinking.
No One Left Onboard
Katherine causes such a ruckus that everyone leaves the carriage, and Mayo leans on her, defeated.
Teddy Lee
Ted is a photographer and asks Ray to help him be his subject. Ray usually keeps to himself and is content doing so, but he is drawn to Ted so much so that he wants to be friends.

I wanted to portray Ray's curiosity to know more about Teddy, but his hesitation as well while he contemplates showing him the single flower he found in this field.
​
Ted is a hardworking yet optimistic person who tries his best to be friendly to everyone.

Ray is a soulster who was originally an Ethereal but became a Bottomfeeder.

His creator was a war general who felt lonely because of unrequited love.

When he found out about Ray, he forced him to kill thousands of people and capture his love interest.

But she would never love him, so he died forever lonely, leaving Ray to live with his guilt.

Many years later, he learns to adapt to modern day and is a model to earn money.

Ray is an unemotional and cold person on the outside. He bubbles up his feelings and doesn't talk often. But he becomes attached to Ted for his true kindness.
The Soulster's Wings
Ray and Kat are flying off into the clouds to stretch their wings. Ray looks more human than Kat because he was originally made not only with loneliness but also love.

Ted and Vera's parents died of a car crash when they were young.

To support both of them, Vera worked hard to earn money.

She continued her studies after Ted got a job, and she still checks up on him.

Her years of experience working different jobs made her cunning and charismatic.

Eventually, she rose to the top of the ranks and is in a high-earning position in a make-up company.
Vera is Ted's elder sister. She is a confident woman who is hardworking, sometimes to a fault. When Ted becomes independent, she has to learn how to relax and meets Franklyn, who's secretly a party animal.
